The Artistry Behind Lastra

The name "Lastra," which means "slab" in Italian, is inspired by the circular wooden molds historically used in cheese-making across Italy. These molds were bound together with twine, creating a slight overlap that helped maintain the shape of the cheese. Maestro molder Stefano Roselli has ingeniously incorporated this overlapping detail into the entire design, extending from the foot to the rim. The subtle dark dusting along the edges of each piece evokes the ash that preserved cheese, further accentuating the unique forms of each item.

Stefano Roselli is a master molder at a ceramics cooperative located just outside Florence. His collaboration with VIETRI and factory owner Franco Ammannati has spanned nearly 15 years, during which they have developed a range of dinnerware collections, vases, urns, and various home decor pieces.
